Biographical Statement
PProfessor Kato is currently a chair of Graduate Program in Innovation Management in Kanazawa Institute of Technology, Graduate School of Innovation Management. He holds Ph.D. from Tohoku University. His research theme in the doctoral dissertation was patent strategy and invention evaluation in technology oriented companies. He was a member of investigation study committee about strategic intellectual property management in Institute of Intellectual Property (2006-2007). He was a leader of "KAKENHI "research project (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research by Japanese government (MEXT)) titled "Study on promotion of the strategic intellectual property management (CIPO)". He is an examiner of the Test of Certified Skilled Worker of Intellectual Property Management. He is also a chairperson of Japan Association of Universities of Intellectual Property (JAUIP). Before joining academia, he worked for IBM-Japan for 14 years. He worked as a systems engineer and an in-house patent attorney in IBM-J. He is a member of Intellectual Property Association Japan, and Japan Patent Attorney Association. He received the Distinguished Service Award for Promotion of Intellectual Property Laws from METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) and JPO (Japan Patent Office).
Practice Information
He joined IBM-Japan in 1990, and worked for 14 years. He worked as a systems engineer in system engineering department, and an in-house patent attorney in intellectual property department. Now he is an active registered patent attorney and IP consultant.
